Mayor's Youth Council Teen Summit
The Mayor’s Youth Council Teen Summit is an outreach effort for MYC members to
introduce their peers to the operation of city government and provides an opportunity
for teens to interact with the city’s elected officials on issues affecting teens. Each
high school has the opportunity to select up to three (2) students to attend the summit
during a school day and receive school attendance credit for having attended the event.
The Mayor’s Youth Council Teen Summit will be held in the spring, and a Forum with the
City’s elected officials will conclude the Teen Summit (Mayor and City Council’s schedules
permitting).
Youth develop and lead initiatives with the support of adult mentors. The Mayor's Youth Council is more
than just a service club because members also train and involve their peers in service leadership.
They also provide valuable insight on issues affecting youth and the community.
Communications
MYC members are responsible for reading their communications via emails and website,
and to respond accordingly. If you do not have an email address, you may list a parent’s
email address and have them print your communications. However it is still the member’s
responsibility to get all communications related to the Mayor’s Youth Council.
City Council & Committee Meetings
Each Youth Council Member is required to attend one City Council meeting during the term.
Members will be assigned in groups to follow an issue from the council committee level to a
City Council meeting where the issue is brought to a full council vote. This will provide
the members an opportunity to see how decisions are made on behalf of the City and provide
a better understanding of how issues affect the operation of city government.
